How Swimming Pool Resurfacing Saved Summer

Summer is nearly over, but the families who love Willow Springs Swim and Recreation Club in East Moline, Illinois were able to make the most of their long, lazy days splashing around in the water.

Fibre Tech helped make it possible.

"We would have probably not had a pool this year if it was not for Fibre Tech,” says Sam Coburn, president of Willow Springs, a private swimming pool where members enjoy a 25-meter swimming pool with two diving boards. The pool also features 3 slides for the kids and the kids at heart.

Willow Springs is a private swimming club located in East Moline, IL. The 55-year-old pool was showing its age.

As the summer swimming season approached, Sam saw three big cracks in the pool surface—cracks that were leaking.

"We were losing thousands of gallons of water,” says Sam.

Fibre Tech was able to close the cracks, seal them, and coat them with their proprietary pool resurfacing methods.

The problem: Cracks and gutter collapse.

The first step in swimming pool resurfacing: paint stripping.

Built in 1961, the Willow Springs pool is solid poured concrete. It’s held up extremely well over the decades. The pool is 14 inches thick on the bottom and 12 inches thick on the sides. But no matter how well they are constructed, over the years, concrete pools like the one at Willow Springs to develop pock marks or divots in the walls.

In fact, the pool is 55 years old and this was the first significant renovation.

"Everybody I know who looked at those blueprints says the builder was ahead of his time with masonry,” Sam says. "We always just painted it before to hide the cracks, but it was to the point where paint just wasn't going to stop the leaks any more."

Before calling Fibre Tech, Willow Springs got an estimate from another swimming pool resurfacing company in the Midwest and was quoted a price that was almost double what Fibre Tech ended up charging.

"We decided after talking with Andy and Scott they had the solutions to our problems."

The Fibre Tech team traveled from Florida to Illinois and got to work. You can see some of the "in progress” photos on this page.

"It's a dream pool now,” Sam says. "We've had so many compliments on the way it looks. There's no more pock holes and it’s a smooth as glass now.”

"Scott and his crew did a great job for us; I have no problem endorsing them at all."
